Disaster managment course with child and family focus. June 2010

This unique Case Western Reserve University short course has been largely designed by Dr Karen Olness of Health Frontiers (a close Rose Charities partner in Haiti relief work). It is unique in that very few courses of in the area focus specifically on the child.  We recommend it very highly.  I is also endorsed by the International Pediatrics Association.   Register online at   http://casemed.case.edu/cme

ROSE USA FUNDRAISER IN WALL STREET JOURNAL

By Lorraine Cwelich

Fashion and music collided on the walls of the Milk Gallery in Manhattan’s Chelsea district this week, to benefit relief efforts in Haiti. The event, which consisted of a silent auction of donated works from world-renowned rock and fashion photographers, was the brainchild of model/actress Noot Seear, who co-starred with Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the second Twilight film, “New Moon.”

Seear, who is the president of the U.S. chapter of Rose Charities, says she was able to pull a few string to get the event, which was curated by John Gettings, off the ground. “I’ve been a model for 13 years so I had a lot of connections with the photographers,” she said. “Everyone gave absolutely their best work and it showed.”

In addition to talking about Rose Charities (”we’re not just going to Haiti and sending in doctors and leaving… we’re also teaching Haitians to become pediatricians and restarting the nurse’s unit”), Seear was also happy to talk about her “New Moon” experience. She said that she won’t be in the third film but will reappear in the fourth, and became good friends with Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz.

New Moon Noot - Fotorelief for Haiti - Rose Charities USA

New Moon's Heidi Helps Haiti
NootNoot Seear, supermodel, actress (she plays Heidi in New Moon), and President of Rose Charities, hosted an evening of photography and charity with Fotorelief to benefit Haiti recently at Milk Gallery in NYC. The silent photo auction called, "A Picture Saves a Thousand Lives," featured work by over 100 of the world's most respected fashion and fine art photographers (including Annie Leibovitz, Patrick Demarchelier, Terry Richardson, and Steven Klein, to name a few). In between mingling with guests and taping down starting bids throughout the gallery, Noot managed to catch up with Seventeen about her goal for the night, her beauty tips, and whether she'll be making an appearance in Breaking Dawn. See what she had to say...
Seventeen: Tell me about tonight's event and why this cause is important to you.
Noot Seear: This is the 9th event I've done and I'm excited about the work featured tonight, especially since it's not all fashion photography. There's a good mix of amazing photographers represented. All of the proceeds from the auction will go to Rose Charities, to provide long-term care and rehabilitation for the survivors of the Haitian earthquake.
17: What are some beauty tips you've learned from modeling?
Noot: Always have confidence. That's the most important thing. Moisturizer is also really important, but it's good to keep things simple.
17: Will we be seeing more of Heidi in Breaking Dawn?
Noot: Yes! I've been contracted and I'm really excited. Everyone is great to work with.
"A Picture Saves a Thousand Lives" raised over 70,000 dollars to help Haiti. To find out more about how you can give back visit rosecharities.info.

FotoRelief fund raising event

FOTORELIEF/ROSE/HAITI
On March 18th 2010 FOTORELIEF and ROSE Charities will hold a silent photography auction and red-carpet event at MILK Gallery to raise funds for the Haitian earthquake relief effort.
Over 100 of the world’s most respected fashion & fine art photographers will donate work to be auctioned that evening, with the invited guests — collectors, art patrons, celebrities and the fashion & fine art world elite –- all having the opportunity to take home an important work of art, while making an invaluable contribution to the relief effort. FOTORELIEF will also reproduce the work in a coffee-table book to commemorate the event and raise additional funds. This special evening will include light catering, open bar and music by a legendary DJ.
100% of the proceeds will go directly to ROSE Charities long-term care and rehabilitation projects in Haiti. ROSE Charities operates completely on a volunteer basis. www.rosecharities.us
